White-lipped Snail, Garden banded snail
The White-lipped Snail or garden banded snail, Cepaea hortensis is a common sight for UK gardens. It is a medium-sized, terrestrial snail species in the land snail family, Hellicidae. Adults are easily identifiable by their white-edged shells, which have dark banded stripes across their surface, these are most often coloured yellow with brown banding. This species is found during the daytime, most often in damp, moist conditions or hidden away in greenery. They are well adapted to cold and wet environments.
